Thanks to the CAPFISH-Capture project, co-funded by the European Union in Cambodia (EU) and jointly implemented by the Cambodian Fisheries Administration and UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization), 4 local companies, including Confirel, took part in a business-to-business matchmaking event with two potential Asian food importers in Paris in early October. Dr Hay Ly Eang, founder and CEO of Confirel, presented the powdered prahok developed by the company and on the way to be patented in France.
The powdered prahok, which comes in 5 flavors, was designed to enable this typically Cambodian product made from fermented fish to conquer international markets.
The event was an opportunity for companies to understand buyers’ requirements in terms of food safety, packaging and labeling. It was organized to prepare companies to be ready to export when Cambodia is listed as an eligible country to export fish products to the EU.
